The Foreign Language Centre is a structural unit of the Faculty of Humanities of Daugavpils University. The centre was founded on March 29, 2004.

Directions of Work

The aim of the activity of the foreign language centre is to popularize foreign languages and to ensure their qualitative acquisition.
The tasks of the foreign language centre activities:

  • to ensure the acquisition of the second foreign language in the philology bachelor programmes;
  • to ensure the foreign language acquisition by the students of other DU study programmes;
  • to ensure the teaching in the professional master study programme “Education” and in the professional master study programme “Translator, interpreter”;
  • to organise the foreign language courses;
  • to provide translation services for payment;
  • to develop and support the contacts with the Latvian and foreign higher schools and other educational and research establishments, as well as with the embassies, centres of foreign language promotion both in Latvia and abroad.


  • participation in the events in Latvian schools devoted to the English, French, Swedish and German languages;
  • cooperation with the Swedish Institute, the English Language Teachers’ Association, the USA Information Centre and with the British Council;
  • probation courses and research work in the universities of the USA, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Germany and Spain;
  • guest lecturers from Sweden, France and Spain;
  • cooperation with the French and Swedish Embassies;
  • providing students with the opportunity to perfect their foreign language knowledge in Sweden, England, France, Germany and Spain.
